minty

I wrote a really depressing entry, but then I though, “nah.” Sometimes trying not to be sad helps you actually not feel sad. In fact I had a therapist once who told me to smile even when I don’t feel like it, because sometimes your muscle movement can improve your mood. Note, we’re not talking about full fledged depression here, and also note that this is the same therapist that prescribed anti-depressants and anxiety medication that took me 6 months to come off of.

Now, I have not been able to have any caffeine for a few months. I don’t miss it very much, and in fact, I actually feel better on the whole. What with fewer headaches and my tummy seems less prone to random bouts of post-coffee “blech” feelings. But, I’ve now got a nasty peppermint tea habit. I’m not sure if this is a bad thing, or a fine thing, but I drink so much peppermint tea during the day that I’m thinking of buying in bulk. I don’t know why everything I do has to be so all or nothing, but seriously, if I start something, I become either addicted to it, or never continue with it. It’s stupid really, but part of my personality I guess. Then again, there are several things that I half-ass, (like this blog) such that what I just said makes me completely full of shit.

I don’t know. I think I’m strange.

Also, I sit on a heating pad all day at work to mimic the effects of the bun warmers in cars. I personally do not have a bun warmer in my car, but I like them and wish I had one. Now I can pretend I have one in my office. Try it, you might like it. Just be careful not to burn your bum.

That "fake it til you make it" approach can actually work, sometimes, whether it's because of muscle movement or something else. I know I get myself into a bad mood by dwelling, and not dwelling has the opposite effect.

Also, Torsten got me a massage seat thing for Christmas and it is heated. It's amazing. I love it.

I'm sorry you have things to be sad about. If you do need to write about it, we are here to listen.

You are genius. A bum warmer at work. That could definitely get me through winter...

There is something to be said about "fake it 'til you make it." But, sometimes the step to go from feeling crappy to just faking it seems so big. Like getting to the gym. Once there, no problem.

I just gave my 8-yr old that same advice the other day. She was so, so angry about something trivial--and she tried it, and it did really seem to work with her. I still can't believe she even tried it (she's quite stubborn, just like her ma).

So, do like Peter Pan and think happy thoughts.

The heating pad/bun warmer idea is fantastic! My office is slightly warmer than an industrial freezer and I was thinking of buying a space heater, but the heating pad is genius!

You will get out of this slump soon enough. In the meantime, take things one day at a time and keep smiling. :)

I like this butt-warmer idea. I have a heater in my office that I have to use EVEN IN THE SUMMER because it is always so frigid in here.

I even HAVE a heating pad. Of course, it's covered in dog hair at the moment but I'm sure something could be done about that.

Those seat warmers always catch me off-guard in cars. Sitting in my friend's car for the first time, i didn't realize that she had the bun-warmer on. That unexpected warming sensation made me feel like i had somehow peed myself but didn't feel it happen.

Why did i share that? I don't know.

You know that song by Nat King Cole? "Smile.. though your heart is aching... Smile.. even though its breaking..." i've never really liked that song - the concept always bugged the crap out of me. But maybe he's got something there if just smiling helps make you feel better.

The thing I love most about my new car is the heated leather seats... but I never thought to recreate them at work! Genius.
